We got to see the fireworks in New Braunfels TX again this year.
I tried again to get some good photos. I hope you like them!

Hope everyone had a wonderful and safe Fourth of July weekend! (This applies to those outside the US, too!)

PS-Thanks to Jason R for showing me how to get the "bulb" setting on my camera.

Beautiful, Michael!
ReplyDeleteOMG Mike -these photos are absolutely awesome!!!!! How you made them??? i am just speechless how nice and beautiful they are - really good everything!!!! you must tell me how you managed to do that!!!
ReplyDeleteoh i only now saw your comments - but yeah you already got it... just must pic a new template !!! actually it is possible to broaden the border limits also but thats kinda difficult if you dont speak HTML :D
ReplyDeleteKairi-Linda,
ReplyDeleteWell I admit I had lots of help. Last year I took a few photos at the very same spot and vowed this year to do better! PS-to see last year's attempt, go to http://myphotomemries.blogspot.com/2008/07/fireworks-on-4th-of-july.html
In a nutshell, I used theses settings:
camera in manual mode
ISO at 200
aperture at f/8
shutter in "bulb" mode (shutter stays open as long as you press the trigger)
lens at 85mm
These shots would not have been possible without a tripod (I used a 12' ladder) and a remote trigger. I "anticipated" the burst and held the shutter open until it finished.
I admit I had help with the settings from Jason R, a photography instructor at Texas State University who just happened to be there. I had the basic ideas but he refined them and made the photos much better.
Hope that helps. Glad to hear from you!

Except for a few stray skyrockets around the neighborhood, we missed out on fireworks this year - thanks for the wonderful show Michael!
ReplyDeleteI've noticed this wider template being used a lot lately - works well with your picture-heavy blog. But I don't think it works so well where there's a lot of text.
I saw Linda's CTG blog post - how cool that you'll be featured on the Pond Tour episode of the TV show! Sure hope we can get to the Pond Tour this year.
Annie at the Transplantable Rose
Thanks so much Annie, for the kudos on the fireworks photos. You're right, I spent a lot of time looking for a wider format because with the narrower format the photos were cropped off and didn't look good. (And I've been trying hard not to write so much on the posts!)
ReplyDeleteThanks also for noticing the Central Texas Gardener videos. I hope no one notices how terrified I was to be on TV. But Tom and Marc made it easy and almost fun.
I have been thinking about putting the video up on My Photo Memories. What do you think? Should I?
Great to hear from you!
Mike
You don't look at all nervous in the CTG segment and you have such a good voice, Mike!
ReplyDeleteYes, you should definitely embed the clip on your blog.
Annie
Thanks, Annie. I will put the video on the blog over the weekend. I hope you can go see some of the ponds--they are all so much fun!
ReplyDeleteMike! Unbelievable! Wow, how you've improved since last year's! I am totally impressed! You must be so happy about them too. :)
ReplyDeleteCheers
Heather
Hi Heather,
ReplyDeleteYou betcha' I'm pleased, and I am glad you went back and checked! I can even see improvement in the pond photos this year from when I started till recently. Not to say this photo thing is becoming an obsession... well, maybe it is. But I think that's ok 'cause it keeps me sane.
After the Pond Tour this weekend, I hope to make a slide show of my faves and post it up on the 'blog. I wish everyone could come see these backyard oases! They are so relaxing and beautiful.
They sound lovely Mike. Can't wait to see the slideshow. :)
ReplyDeleteVery, very impressive.
ReplyDeleteThanks, Mary. How did you find My Photo Memories?
